Tourism Revival: New Wings In The Air

Must Read

This first phase of the reopening has been rather soft with some 2000 arrivals, including returning Mauritians. However, we can count on even more tourists thanks to the new flights, including departures and arrivals. The recovery plan to welcome 650,000 tourists in 12 months will be largely favoured.

Three more flights to Reunion

Despite the tightening of the state of emergency and the 6pm curfew, departures and arrivals remain unchanged. Travellers with a full vaccination schedule can still travel without compelling reasons. Air Mauritius is currently resuming flights to Reunion Island with three more flights per week on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays between SSR and Roland Garros airports. The ATR 72-500 and the Airbus A330-900 will be used for this purpose. Departures for this 45-minute trip will be at 10.15 a.m., with return flights at 12.45 p.m. It is understood that this plan will not affect the two weekly rotations every Monday and Friday offered by Air Austral.

Nairobi- Mauritius- Competition helping wing

Kenya Airways, in the pre-pandemic era as competitor of Air Mauritius on this route, has not yet resumed its flights there but returns to our territory from 06 August. Insured by an Embraer 190, Kenya Airways will fly every Friday from Nairobi-Jomo Kenyatta airport to SSR airport. The 4 hours and 20 minutes flight will depart at 13:00 and arrive at 18:20 in Mauritius and the return flights at 19:10 from SSR Airport to Nairobi at 22:30.

Heading to London in early October

In early October, Air Mauritius will also resume its direct flights to London. Our national airline will operate a weekly flight with an Airbus A330-900neo. The first flight is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 2 October with a departure at 10.10 pm from SSR airport and arrival at 7.30 am at London Heathrow airport. The return flight would then be on Sunday at 17:00 to land in Mauritius on Monday at 7:55. Mauritius is again competing with British Airways on this route.

5 new Corsair flights

Air Mauritius already operates four flights to Paris CDG each week. With the plans for the second phase of our reopening, these four flights may not be enough. Therefore, our airport will be on their flight plans weekly as from October 22. The journey will be made in an Airbus A330, including three flights from Paris-Orly, one from Lyon and one from Marseille. Mauritius is privileged because of the closure of the Lyon and Marseille routes to Mayotte in these pandemic times.
