Tokyo Paralympic Games, Mauritians Ready To Go

Only a few days left before the opening of the Paralympic Games of Tokyo from August 24 to September 5 in the Japanese capital. A few weeks after the Olympic Games, the Olympic flame will be relit as it is customary.

The Mauritian delegation, strong of 11 members including four disabled sportsmen arrived in Japan since last Tuesday. A journey that lasted 48 hours as explained by the coach Jean-Marie Bhugeerathee. “It was a very long and tiring journey. We left Mauritius last Sunday around 11pm and we arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday night around 10pm. And we went straight to the Games village. We just had time to have a nice dinner and to go to bed. Since we adapt ourselves to the time and the climate of Japan. For the moment the entrances consist in light sessions, mainly stretching, while waiting for the opening of the stadium ” made emphasize Jean-Marie Bhugeerathee.

The stadium which opens this Saturday, August 21.

The Mauritian team is composed of Noemi Alphonse, flag bearer of the delegation, Brandy Perrin, Eddy Capdor and Anaïs Angéline.

The latter (T37, physical disability) will be the first Mauritian to take action on Friday, August 27 for the 200m heats. She will also compete in the final of the women’s long jump and the 100m heats in her category.

The best chance for a medal, however, remains Noemi Alphonse (T54), who is in her first Paralympic Games. The African record holder in the 100m and 1500m, will compete in four events, namely 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.

Before her departure for Tokyo, she confided to us that her goal is to reach at least the final of the 100m T54. “I have been training very hard and I hope to be in the final of the 100m T54.

Brandy Perrin, was the last to qualify. She will compete in the 100, 400 and 800m wheelchair events.

While Eddy Capdor got his ticket in the long jump.

The Mauritians are therefore ready for the big day.
