They spent a night in a cell. But this morning, Nazim Gurib, president of the Plaine Magnien village council, Vashil Jasgray, councillor of Plaine Magnien village, Gaadish Bhoodun, resident of the same village, and Kursley Nadal, district councillor of Grand Port, were released. The first two had to pay a deposit of Rs 5,000 and sign an IOU of Rs 40,000. As for the last one, Kursley Nadal, his bail amounted to Rs 6 000 and his IOU to Rs 50 000. This is because he already had a criminal record. The four suspects are scheduled to appear in court again on April 26.

The president of the village of Plaine Magnien spoke to the press as he left the court. He indicated that he simply wanted to attend the meeting that was held at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau on Wednesday 6 April. He felt that as President of the village of Plaine Magnien, he had a duty to attend. He was released this morning on bail of Rs 5,000 and a debt recognizance of Rs 40,000.
Kersley Nadal, Grand Port district councillor, who is also a former MSM agent, is furious. He says that many will be held to account. This was on his way out of court after his release on bail. He was released on a bail of Rs 6,000 and a debt recognizance of Rs 50,000.
Vashil Jasgray, councillor from the village of Plaine Magnien, is one of those arrested following the incidents of Wednesday 6 April. He was arrested along with three other people yesterday, namely the president and a resident of the village as well as a district councillor, and was transferred from the Grand Bois police station to Bel Ombre. Why was he transferred? Vashil Jasray says he does not know the reason. But he says he was handcuffed for the purpose of the transfer. He too was released on bail of Rs 5,000 and a debt recognizance of Rs 50,000.
