The Ministry Dissolves The Board Of The MFA

Must Read

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation has dissolved the Mauritius Football Association board, chaired by Samir Sobha.  Minister Stephan Toussaint made the announcement at a press briefing on Thursday. He says that the reason is that the MFA is not in conformity with the country’s sports law. The failure of the football revival strategy is also a factor.

Minister Stephan Toussaint emphasised that the setting-up of the Temporary Committee was a consequence of the MFA’s non-conformity to the law since the implementation of the Sports Act of 2013 and 2016. “This decision has been taken after several meetings and discussions with the concerned parties,” stressed the Minister.

A Temporary Committee, chaired by Jean-Pierre Sauzier, has been set up. Its main task is to organise new elections within the MFA. The committee will also have the task of working on amendments to the law in relation to football to bring it into line with the Sports Act. Another task of the committee is to ensure the day-to-day running of the federation until a new executive committee is in place.

The Minister pointed out that the Technical Committee would be chaired by Mr Sarjoo Gowreesunkur, who served as the national football team coach for Mauritius in the past.
