Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth took part in a working meeting with the Executive Council of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly yesterday morning at Port Mathurin.
The meeting, which lasted over an hour, reviewed several issues of importance to the island. These included water supply, the extension of the airport runway and Rodrigues’ economic activities.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to work for the progress and development of Rodrigues. He cited several projects underway and the amount of investment.
The Prime Minister also visited the Cotton Bay Hotel, which is currently being renovated and expanded. According to the PM: with the expansion of Plaine Corail airport, we can expect more visitors, and the Cotton Bay hotel will increase the number of rooms available on the island.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Mauritius Police Force Shooting Range in Terre Rouge, Rodrigues, on October 11, 2023. This new shooting range will enable police officers in Rodrigues to have access to advanced weapons training without having to travel to Mauritius.
In his speech, the Prime Minister affirmed that this state-of-the-art firing center is unique in the region. Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth asserted that this facility will help to strengthen order and peace within our Republic and will also enable police officers to become more professional.
The Prime Minister listed a few projects recently completed in Rodrigues aimed at making the island safer. He referred to the construction of a new police station at Grande Montagne and a new National Coast Guard station at Plaine Corail.
The Prime Minister also announced the forthcoming construction of a new coastal surveillance station to gather maritime information.
The Chief Commissioner of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, who was also present at the inauguration ceremony, encouraged police officers to make good use of this facility.
