In the absence of Xavier-Luc Duval who is abroad, Paul Bérenger and Nando Bodha of the Entente de l’Espoir held a press conference yesterday. Paul Bérenger said that the Entente will soon come with a detailed draft of the electoral reform. This follows the rejection of the Supreme Court on Friday, in relation to the constitutional complaint of Rezistans ek Alternativ. This movement has been challenging since 2015 the requirement for a legislative candidate to declare his ethnicity. Nando Bodha is also of the opinion that a real reform of the electoral system is needed.
The MMM leader believes “that depreciation is inevitable. The consequences on the high prices of fuel that influence the rate of inflation”. Paul Bérenger finds it unacceptable that the prices of petroleum products have not fallen since June. Bérenger predicts a possible recession.
Paul Bérenger also explained his comments that Nando Bodha can be a great Prime Minister. He says he only meant that he has the potential. “Mo ena ene sel lalang. Nando is perfectly qualified to be a great Prime Minister: if he becomes Prime Minister. If the platform of hope is folded, we will decide that it’s time to go. A lot of people would like to be prime minister. Mai fodre ena lexperience, kalite ek sincerite.”
Nando Bodha, the leader of the Mauritius Rally, commented at length on the HSC exams where students complained about mistakes in the General Paper. The former minister is of the opinion that there should be a better coordination between the MES and Cambridge.
Bérenger and Bodha deplored the extension of the Quarantine Act until the end of November and said that it is a pretext for not returning to normalcy regarding the holding of municipal elections.
