The District Court Did Not Allow Bhadain’s Question On Joseph Perrine’s Credibility

Must Read

Not allowed! This is the conclusion of Magistrate Bibi Azna Bholah. She gave her ruling on a question the Reform Party leader had put to ASP Ghoorah of the Major Crime Investigation Team during the last hearing. Roshi Bhadain asked the senior police officer why the police were giving credence to Joseph Perrine’s latest version. Magistrate Bholah ruled that since the case is still at a preliminary stage, it is premature to assess the credibility of a witness. The case has been adjourned to 21 January 2022. The court will decide on the documents filed by Roshi Bhadain.

Case more than 10 years old

The case dates back to 2010. The Criminal Investigation Division had opened an investigation into the disappearance of teak planks from a warehouse of the former Development Works Corporation in Pailles. This wood came from the Aapravasi Ghat and the Government House where there had been demolition work.  The investigation led to the arrest of Joseph Kinsley Perrine, who confessed to the theft before being released on parole. He swore an affidavit to clear his accomplices.

The name of Roshi Bhadain is mentioned in this case because it is notably at his home in Albion that a part of the teak boards would have been used, according to Joseph Kinsley Perrine, within the framework of a renovation made by this last one in his capacity as carpenter. At the time, the lawyer explained to the CID that he had asked Bijaycoomar Greedharry, who was one of his clients, to do the work.
