Teenager Drowns In Tyack

Must Read

A 13 year old schoolboy, Louis Fernand Respoy, drowned in the Pouspa basin in Tyack, Rivière des Anguilles in the afternoon of Friday, April 22. The resident of Tyack had gone to this place with two teenage girls, aged 14 and 16 respectively, to swim. At some point, the teenager found himself in trouble in the water. He was pulled out of the water by volunteers, who were alerted, and taken to Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. The doctor on duty in the emergency room could unfortunately only note his death.

It was at around 3:40 pm on Friday 22 April that this tragedy occurred. Nothing predicted that this student of the SSS Mahatma Gandhi of New France would lose his life during the first week of the Easter vacations. At one point, Fernand Respoy found himself in trouble before disappearing from the surface of the water. His two comrades then left the pool to seek help.

A group of volunteers arrived on the scene and rescued Fernand Respoy from the pool before rushing him to the Rose-Belle hospital. Unfortunately, the teenager did not survive. His body was then taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Ashwini Ramsamy-Dhondea, Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to asphyxiation due to drowning.

The funeral of Fernand Respoy took place this Saturday, April 23 at 1 pm. After the funeral ceremony at the church of Sacré-Coeur in Rivière des Anguilles, he was buried in the cemetery of Souillac.
