Taliban Thrashes 12 People In Afghanistan’s Stadium For ‘Moral Crimes’

Must Read

Taliban in Afghanistan has thrashed at least 12 people in a football stadium this week for committing “moral crimes”. Among the victims were three women thrashed in front of a huge number of witnesses in Afghanistan’s Logar, the British online newspaper Independent reported.

The charges that the victims were accused of were adultery, robbery and homosexual sex, a punishable offense under Sharia law. The three women were freed after their punishment, the British news agency BBC quoted Taliban spokesperson Omar Mansoor Mujahid as saying.

The Taliban beat the men and women with around 21-39 strikes each. Afghan journalist Habib Khan shared an unverified photo of the entire stadium, a place became for giving punishments. The picture showed a huge crowd of men and women gathered.

In his tweet the journalist claimed that stadium that used to be place for sports events have now become a site for punishing people in various ways.

Such incidents are not rare and the latest incident is the second such by the Taliban regime this month.  The Supreme Court of Afghanistan said earlier that 19 people had received whippings for adultery, stealing, and fleeing their homes in northeastern Afghanistan.

Supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada gave an order to the judges in November to completely implement aspects of Islamic law which specifies public executions, stonings, floggings, and the amputation of limbs for thieves.

“Carefully examine the files of thieves, kidnappers and seditionists. Those files in which all the sharia conditions of hudud and qisas have been fulfilled, you are obliged to implement,” the supreme leader said, as per the Taliban’s chief spokesman.
