Arrested For Murder: Constable Tayrish Buldy Alleges Son Abuse

Must Read

Provisionally charged with the murder of his concubine Sanjana Khoodeeram, 26, a Health Care Assistant at the Arya Samaj in Belle-Mare, Constable Tayrish Buldy, 31, who spent his first day of detention in a cell at the Flacq Police Station on Tuesday, November 22, gave a statement for child abuse at the Brisée-Verdière Police Station on the afternoon of Thursday November 24. He alleged that his 2-year-old son was being abused by his maternal grandmother.

Suspecting that his partner was having an extramarital affair, following an argument in his car in the village of Saint Julien, the policeman said he stabbed his wife with a knife before spraying her with paraffin and setting her on fire. This was in the early hours of Saturday 19 November.  The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division of Brisée-Verdière.

It was at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 24, that the police officer made a statement regarding the abuse of his son. He first gave a history of his late partner, whom he had met in 2016. In 2019, they decided to date. After Sanjana Khoodeeram became pregnant, they started living together in a rented house in Camp Garreau, Flacq along with the victim’s six-year-old daughter. Following an argument, his wife had decided to leave the marital home to live with her mother in Caroline for a month.

Shortly afterwards, they got back together and rented a house in Providence, Quartier-Militaire. They lived there for almost a year before moving to the village of Ecroignard. During this time, he pointed out, his son and his partner’s daughter were taken care of by his mother, who is 62 years old. For nine months, he said, they have been separated, but continue to meet in Riche-Mare. Since the end of October, Sanjana Khoodeeram had been coming to meet him, but he never brought his son. On several occasions, he said he asked her to see his son, but each time she found an excuse.

On Thursday 17 November, following a request from Sanjana Khoodeeram, he said he picked up his son from Caroline. In the evening, while bathing his son, he noticed that the child had several injuries on his elbows, knees and face. He said that he asked his son about this and that his son told him that his maternal grandmother had pushed him and he had ended up on the floor. The child explained that his grandmother’s action was motivated by the fact that he had left his toys scattered on the patio and in the living room.

Constable Tayrish Buldy believes his son is a victim of abuse. He requested that the Child Development Unit of the Ministry of Gender Equality and the Family Protection Unit investigate the case. He expressed the wish that his son be returned to his mother.
