Suren Dayal’s Election Petition To Be Heard By The Privy Council Next Monday

Must Read

Only one week to go ! Suren Dayal’s election petition will be called and heard before the King’s Privy Council as from Monday next, 10 July. The legal teams from the various parties are leaving Mauritius for London today…

As a reminder, Suren Dayal, the unsuccessful Labour Party candidate, is challenging the decision of the Supreme Court of Mauritius to dismiss his election petition calling for the annulment of the election of Pravind Jugnauth and the other two representatives of constituency no. 8.

Suren Dayal has retained the services of King Counsel Timothy Straker, who is Joint Head of Chambers at 45 Gray’s Inn Square. He specialises in electoral law. He will be supported by Robin Ramburn, of Sir Hamid Moollan, and solicitor Hiren Jankee.

Pravind Jugnauth has once again turned to the British firm Matrix Chambers. He had already retained the services of Clare Montgomery, a member of the same firm, in the Medpoint case. His legal team will be led by Guy Vassall-Adams, a specialist in electoral law.

He will be supported by Tim James-Matthews and Senior Counsels Eric Ribot and Ravind Chetty.
