SUGAR INDUSTRY: ‘Zero Accident’ Campaign At Alteo

Must Read

“Putting health and safety at the heart of agricultural activities” is the aim of the campaign launched two weeks ago at the Alteo garage in Union Flacq by Arnaud d’Unienville, the Chief Operations Officer – Agricultural Activities of the Alteo Group.

Called ‘zero accident’, this campaign, which aims to raise the awareness and responsibility of the 700 employees of Alteo’s agricultural division with regard to this issue, is the continuation of the one initiated in 2020 for the 300 employees of the group’s industrial division.  For the moment, this second phase concerns only the garage, but will be rolled out to the group’s various sites in the coming weeks.

“One accident is already one too many,” Arnaud d’Unienville tells his teams from the outset. The tone is set. “We have noted an increase in the number of accidents in our operations between last year and this year, going from 55 accidents to 66 accidents. Although these are minor accidents, this increase is still unacceptable.  That’s why we are launching this campaign today, which uses powerful phrases to remind people of the common sense rules associated with our work. The date chosen for this launch is not insignificant either, as it coincides with the World First Aid Day, celebrated on Saturday 11th September. Furthermore, the ‘actors’ chosen for this campaign are our employees themselves, as it is essential that everyone understands that everyone is responsible for their own safety and that of their colleagues. It is only by working together that we will achieve our OBZEKTIF ZERO AKSIDAN,” said the COO of Alteo’s Farming Operations, who had gathered around 50 employees at the entrance to the garage in Union Flacq to unveil the Farming Division’s new communication campaign.

“I think it’s an excellent idea to train workers and make them aware of health and safety issues. It should prevent us from having to deal with work-related accidents. It’s also gratifying to see us or our colleagues on these posters. It shows that we all have a role to play in this company to make our work site a safe place,” said Christian Dorasami, Chief Welder and 35-year Alteo employee.
