The news sent shockwaves through Rue Alma, Vallée Pitot, on the evening of Tuesday 1 August. Bibi Sharmeermaaz Soobun-Mira, aged 42, was stabbed in the back of the head with a knife. The knife was still stuck in her head when she was picked up by a Samu ambulance and taken to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis. The forty-year-old’s state of health is a cause for serious concern. The suspect is none other than her husband Issah Abdel Rahman Issur, aged 44, with whom she lives separately. The suspect was apprehended on the morning of Wednesday 2 August at his home in Grand Rivière Nord-Ouest (GRNO).
At around 9.20pm on the evening of Tuesday 1 August, a team of police officers from the Plaine Verte police station went to the address following a request for a case of premeditated assault. Sergeant Paridesi went to the bathroom. He discovered a woman kneeling with her head against the wall. She had a knife stuck in the back of her head. She also had a wound on her back at the base of her neck. Blood was scattered over the upper part of her body and on the floor on the ceramic tiles.
The victim, who was conscious, was questioned about the circumstances of her injury, to which she replied, “kan monn sorti travey, mo finn rant dan la sal de bin pou mo bingnie, mo missie Issa Issurki ti deza laba pe attann mwa, linn maye maye mwa par ledo et li finn pik kouto dan mo latet ek mo viv en separasyon avek li ek li rest dans Grande Rivière à Borstal .
It was an argument between the couple that degenerated into a bloody brawl. At one point Issah Abel Rahman Issur grabbed a knife and inflicted a cut on his wife’s back before stabbing the weapon into the back of her head. The suspect immediately fled from his wife’s home in rue Alma, Vallée Pitot.
A police operation mounted by officers from the Vallée Pitot police station, assisted by their colleagues from Tour Koenig, led to the arrest of the suspect in GRNO at around 7am on Wednesday 2 August. The same day, he was brought before the Port-Louis court on a provisional charge of premeditated assault.
