Soccer: Masters Qualifiers League: Fire Brigade Win The Final

Must Read

The Fire Birgade won the final of the Masters Qualifiers League 2023 yesterday at the Anjalay Coopen stadium, beating Port-Louis Reste du Monde in a penalty shoot-out 5-3.

As in the good old days, the Fire Brigade delighted its fans by winning the final of the Masters Qualifiers League.  Port-Louis Reste du Monde relied on a defensive approach in the first half, and were more enterprising in the second. But it was impossible to break through the red and black’s defensive line.

And in the shoot-out, the Fire Brigade proved more agile, winning the first-ever Masters Qualifiers League final to the satisfaction of captain Henri Spéville. “Overall, it was a balanced final. Fire Brigade were luckier in the penalty shoot-out. It’s another title for us. We hope to repeat the initiative next year,” said Henri Spéville.

For the captain of Port-Louis Reste du Monde, his team didn’t entirely believe in their chances: “We contained our opponents’ assaults at the start of the match before going on the attack in the second half. It was a great final with chances on both sides. We had the potential to win this final, but we respected our opponents too much,” said Mike Kayava.

Around thirty teams took part in the tournament. The top sixteen teams then entered a knockout tournament. Hence the final between Fire Brigade and Port-Louis Reste du Monde.

With the success of this tournament, it is whispered that next season the tournament will take the form of a league.
