Torrential Rainfall Warning Removed In Mauritius At 15h 15

Must Read

The torrential rainfall warning which entered in force in Mauritius at 15h15 has been removed at 18 hrs. The meteorological service says that there is not raining heavily. The torrential rain warning was emitted after it was noted that Port Louis recorded 131 millimetres of rain in two hours only. From 1 to 3pm, Champ de Mars recorded 106 millimetres and Pamplemousses 103 millimetres.

There have been cases of water accumulation and flooding in at-risk areas. The rains in Port-Louis were so heavy that the National Emergency Operations Command asked motorists and members of the public not to leave their homes and avoid coming to Port Louis. Its spokesman, Pravin Rughoo, appealed to the public to stay at home if they have no reason to go out.

Heavy Rainfall Warning

The fire brigade carried out 24 interventions 8am to 3.30pm. In most cases, it was for water accumulation in yards, on roads, in houses or even in buildings… Nevertheless, in Terre Rouge, they were called to rescue a person who was trapped in his car. 198 firemen were mobilized in the 11 fire stations of the island.

Due to the heavy rain, during the afternoon, only one lane of the motorway was practicable at Bell-Village in the direction of Bagatelle. This resulted in heavy traffic congestion.
