Six-Month-Old Baby Scalded In Bath

A six-month-old baby girl was badly burnt on the evening of Wednesday 1 February while her mother was giving her a bath. She was rushed to the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq before being transferred to the Victoria Hospital in Candos where she was admitted to the Burns’ Unit. Her condition is said to be serious.

Her 35-year-old father, who is self-employed, reported the case to the Belle Mare police station at around 10am on Thursday 2 February. In his statement, the resident of the coastal village of Palmar described the circumstances of the accident. It was around 8.30 pm on Wednesday 1 February when his wife was giving a bath to their little daughter. The girl was burned by the water in the bathtub, which was too hot.

As soon as the child screamed, her mother took her out of the water, but she continued to cry. She immediately took her daughter, together with her wife, to the hospital in Flacq. After first aid was given to her. She was transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Candos. After receiving further treatment, she was placed in the Burns’ Unit with her mother.

The Belle-Mare police have initiated an investigation into the case.
