A resident of Cité Roma, Terre-Rouge, alleges that she was raped in the early hours of Monday 1 May at her home. The perpetrator of this act is none other than her ex-boyfriend. The latter, a 30-year-old bricklayer living in the coastal village of Grand Gaube, allegedly took advantage of the absence of the victim’s two brothers, with whom he was drinking, to sexually abuse the 18-year-old woman.
In a statement made at the police station in Terre-Rouge, the teenager recounted the rape of which she was the victim. This offence was committed by her ex-boyfriend between 1.30 and 2.35am on Monday 1 May. On the evening of Sunday 30 April her parents were away, her two brothers, the suspect and herself were drinking alcoholic beverages.
At some point she went to bed, while her two brothers went to buy alcoholic drinks and her ex took the opportunity to sexually abuse her. A policewoman assigned to the Terre-Rouge police station took the statement for her.
The teenager has scratches on her left eyebrow, swelling on her left cheek and a bump on the left side of her forehead. She was taken to the northern hospital for treatment and was admitted to the ward to follow protocol for victims of sexual abuse. The Grand Gaube resident is being actively sought by the police.
In St Croix, a 14-year-old girl accused her paternal uncle of rape. The 58-year-old uncle, who lives in Flacq, committed the crime at around 4pm on 16 April. On that day, the grade 9 student said, she was taking a bath when her uncle broke into a bathroom and had sex with her with force and without her consent. She said she tried to break free, but her uncle overpowered her.
After giving a statement on the case to a police officer for the family protection squad, she was taken to Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital where she was admitted to the ward to follow the protocol for victims of sexual abuse.
The suspect was arrested on the evening of Tuesday 2 May. On Wednesday morning, 3 May, he was brought before the Port-Louis court. He was kept in a police cell.
