Vimen S. Arrested For Alleged Drug Trafficking

A police operation was mounted by the Special Striking Team (SST) of the Police Headquarters, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ashik Jagai on Wednesday afternoon, May 3rd at La Poudrière Street, Port Louis. A grey Ford Raptor driven by Vimen S, a 39-year-old Vacoassian was intercepted. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing a large quantity of a suspected heroin substance, ten kilos, worth Rs 150 million. Vimen Sabapati is known to be one of former Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s bodyguards

In a statement to the press on Wednesday afternoon, Vimen Sabapati said that he was “Mo inosan” as he left the SST office in the Central Barracks to be taken to his home in Vacoas for a search. The latter is also the manager of a business in the coastal village of Flic en Flac.  The thirty-year-old is also a former Muay Thai trainer.

Vimen S. was detained overnight and was due to appear in court in Port Louis on Thursday morning, 4 May. The suspected drug substance will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Reduit for analysis.

Following this arrest, a video is circulating on social networks showing a car that stopped right next to Vimen S.’s parked Ford Raptor. An individual who was in the front seat (observer) got out of the car by bending over and appeared to be hiding something under the bodywork, between the right wheel of the vehicle.
