SAJ Bridge: Inaugurated This Sunday

Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will inaugurate the A1-M1 bridge today, March 10.

The road linking Soreze to Chebel will be opened to the public the following day The 330-metre bridge is unique in the Indian Ocean. It is an essential component of the government’s road congestion relief plan.

The infrastructure, to be known as the SAJ Bridge, is a project worth Rs 4.31 billion. It comprises the bridge and the road, totalling one kilometer in length.

SAJ Bridge

The bridge links the Port-Louis/Saint-Jean route to the M1 freeway, and is one of the jewels in the crown of the government’s current mandate. Overlooking the Grande-Rivière-Nord-Ouest valley, the bridge is a feat of engineering.

Work began five years ago. Although the inauguration of the viaduct was originally scheduled for February, it had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

SAJ Bridge

Pravind Jugnauth will need to go through two stages in order to officially inaugurate the SAJ Bridge. The first stage will take place near Chebel upon his arrival, and the second stage will be at Sorèze, where he will drive over the bridge in a car. To add a touch of elegance, the Helicopter Squadron has planned to deploy three aircraft to scatter flowers on the newly constructed A1-M1 bridge. The contract for organizing a fusion show has been awarded to the Impact Production company, led by Jean-Luc Mannenback.

The Prime Minister’s journey from Coromandel to Sorèze, the spectacle will be provided by a group of motorcyclists under the supervision of CI Ashok Matar and his team. While the preparations for the show, which involves the police and other cultural artists, are complete, there has been a keen focus on monitoring the development of the weather conditions.
