Jhovany Jean, a 48 year old cabinetmaker and resident of the city CHA, L’Avenir, Saint Pierre, was arrested on Tuesday, February 28 in connection with a rape case. This forty year old man committed this crime on a 37 year old mentally handicapped woman, living in the area of Quatre-Bornes. He held the victim at his home from Monday 13 to Sunday 26 February. Jhovany was brought before the court of Moka on Wednesday, March 01, and thereafter, he was kept in a police cell.
It was in the evening of Tuesday 28 February that the thirty-year-old reported this case of rape to the police station of Saint Pierre. In her complaint, the woman from Quatreborn gave the history of her family life. Married, she lives with her husband and in the company of her sister-in-law. It was on February 10 that she met this man. After confiding in her sister-in-law, she decided to file a complaint with the police. As a reminder, she was reported missing at the police station of Quatre-Bornes since Wednesday, February 15.
It was on board a blue car driven by an unknown man that Jhovany Jean came to pick her up at her home around 1pm on Monday, February 13, to take her to Saint Pierre. During the same night, this man had a few drinks with his friend before raping and sodomizing her.
Between Tuesday, February 14 and Sunday, February 26, Jhovany Jean had sex with the thirty-year-old several times during the night. The thirty-year-old expressed the wish to be examined by a doctor. She confided in her sister-in-law about this case. She said she was willing to hand over the clothes she was wearing to the police.
After giving her statement, the Quatrebornaise was taken to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse was put in place.
