Rs 800,000 Worth Of Medicines Stolen From The Ministry Of Health

Must Read

Two employees of the Ministry of Health (MOH) are in the crosshairs of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police, Southern Division, regarding the theft of several medicines from the Central Supply Division (CSD) of the MOH in Plaine-Lauzun. The value of this theft is Rs 800,000.

The Assistant Manager Procurement & Supply Officer of the CSD stationed in Plaine-Lauzun reported the matter to the Central Barracks police station late on Wednesday afternoon, October 27. In his complaint, the 52-year-old officer, who lives in L’Amitié, Rivière du Rempart, gave the history of the theft of these drugs. The CSD of Plaine-Lauzun, he said, is the place where medicines are stored by the Ministry of Health for distribution to various government institutions across the country.  This place is under the surveillance of cameras and guards from a private security company.

During an inventory conducted last week, it was found that several bottles of drops, creams, gels and other medicines were missing from Section A of the CSD.  The total amount is estimated at Rs 800,000.   The officer explained that while viewing the CCTV footage of October 8 at 9.40am, he identified a truck coming from Victoria Hospital, Candos in the CSD compound. After taking delivery of medicines in several sections of the compound, an individual working at Candos Hospital went to one of them where he was handed a box of medicines by a planton without any authorisation.

A copy of this surveillance camera footage on a USB stick was given to the police for investigation.
