Respekte Moris: National Cleanup Awareness Campaign And Cleanup In Albion

Must Read

A new stage of the Respekte Moris national clean-up and waste management awareness campaign took place this Thursday, October 7, in Albion, from 8 am to noon. A ceremony was held at 10 am near the bridge of Club Med Albion, in the presence of Lindsay Morvan, Director of the Tourism Authority, Karen Foo Kune, Member of Parliament for Beau-Bassin/Petite-Rivière, Ludovic Labeauté, President of the District Council of Black River, Rishon Badhain, President of the Village Council of Albion.

Three clean-up areas were identified for this event, which brought together the public and private sectors: the public beach, the Albion lighthouse and the Club Med bridge. Participating agencies were MTPA, Tourism Authority, Club Med, Maurilait, Beach Authority, MUA, Special Mobile Force, Albion Village Council and Black River District Council.

For the MTPA, the importance of preserving the natural beauty of this jewel of our island, the village of Albion, is emphasized. The public beach and the lighthouse are beautiful places, much appreciated and frequented not only by tourists, but also by many Mauritians. These are great assets for the tourism industry, as we welcome our first visitors after the reopening of the borders. The simple cleaning and beautification of the area is not enough, it is absolutely necessary that the people who frequent it learn not to throw their garbage anywhere.

In order to help everyone better respect the area, trash cans provided by the Tourism Authority have been installed at strategic locations, as well as a Respekte Moris sign aimed at raising awareness about waste management. The area around the lighthouse was cleaned with the help of the Special Mobile Force, whose equipment made it possible to reach places that were inaccessible on foot. The Club Med bridge was also restored and repainted.

The next stage of the campaign will take place on October 29.
