Kanwar Explosion: The Nine Injured Of Grand Bassin Out Of Danger

As of Thursday afternoon in the medical community of the Victoria Hospital in Candos, it is being suggested that the nine pilgrims, injured in the explosion of a kanwar on the Mare-Longue road late Thursday afternoon, February 16, are out of danger. In the coastal village of Albion, there was desolation. The funerals of Bharat Doorjeean, also known as Rohun, aged 20, and Parmeshwar Dhookeeya, known as Parmeshwal, aged 35, were held at the same time at 2pm. These two pilgrims died as a result of electrocution under this kanwar.

These nine pilgrims are all male, two of whom were admitted to the intensive care unit of the Burns’ Unit. These two pilgrims are a 22 year old Albion resident and a person, whose identity is not known, who is believed to live in Cité La Cure, while the other six injured are Albion residents between the ages of 16 and 55. They are all admitted to the Burns’ Unit. A 15 year old was admitted to Cardiac Day Care.

The village of Albion has been in turmoil since the announcement of the death of two of its residents. Since Thursday evening, hundreds of people have converged at the homes of the Doorjeans in Camp Creole and the Dhookeeya’s in Cite Marcel Cabon to express their sympathies. Before the remains were taken to be cremated at the Saint-Georges cemetery in Petite-Rivière during the day on Friday, February 17, politicians from all sides, including the President of the Republic, Prithiviraj Roopun, and the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, paid a visit to the relatives of both victims. It should be noted that relatives of two victims, who are still in hospital, were taken on board ambulances to attend the funeral.
