Recount At No. 19 Set For February 1

Must Read

The recount in constituency no. 19 (Stanley-Rose-Hill) between Jenny Adebiro and Ivan Collendavelloo will finally take place on February 1st. This new date was chosen instead of Saturday 29 January, which was initially announced by the Acting Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court, Wendy Rangan. The decision was announced at a meeting with the parties concerned on Wednesday 26 January. The two candidates, the electoral commissioner at the Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC), as well as the 80 judicial officers selected for the recount, were asked to take the necessary precautions.

The exercise will take place at GMD Atchia College. The counting of the 28,000 ballots will start at around 7.30 am. The ballots, which are currently at the Special Mobile Force headquarters, will be transferred to GMD Atchia College under heavy police escort on Tuesday. The announcement of the results will then take place at the Notre Dame des Victoires school in Rose-Hill. However, nothing has been finalised yet.

It will be recalled that last Monday, the Acting Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court, Wendy Rangan, had set the date for the count for this Saturday, January 29. The GMD Atchia College in Port Louis was chosen for the exercise and it was announced that the results would be announced on the same day at the Notre Dame des Victoires School in Rose Hill by Senior District Magistrate Kevin Moorghen. He was the Returning Officer in the 2019 elections. But there were changes to the date as the parties concerned were invited to hear about the arrangements, especially the procedures to be followed.

Court officials will count some 28,169 valid and 1,796 invalid ballots. 20 rooms will be allocated for the exercise and both sides will have to mobilise 40 counting agents each.
