Mega Health Check: PM Sets Example By Donating Blood

The Mega Health Check in St. Pierre is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Beau-Bassin R Hill which benefits from the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Arvin Authelsing, spokesman for this organization explains that the purpose of this activity is to help the blood bank to have a sufficient stock of this precious liquid to save lives.

“The population must learn to donate their blood. A principle to enable Mauritius to meet its annual need for blood bags. These are the words of Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth who participated in a Mega health check, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the station of Saint-Pierre.

The Head of Government who set an example by donating blood, believes that this gesture helps doctors to save lives. “Kot kapav done the example mo done the example. We need to remind citizens that when they donate, they save their lives. It is important that we make it a principle that the bank has sufficient stock to save lives,” said Pravind Jugnauth.

The Prime Minister says that this initiative is in line with the policy of his government. “The government is investing a lot of money in the health sector. A lot of improvements have been made in terms of infrastructure, training of health personnel and also the improvement of the service in our hospitals. And this, despite the fact that we are facing the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Taking this opportunity, the Head of Government urged citizens to take advantage of all services and facilities offered free of charge by the Ministry of Health. Pravind Jugnauth said that in this period of pandemic it is more important than ever to have regular health checkups. “I congratulate all the NGOs and other organizations that organize this kind of activity. We all have to take care of our health,” he said.

Also present at the event was Leela Devi Dookhun Luchoomun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, who also donated blood. She also wanted to set an example to the population so that it takes the importance of this noble act.
