Rama Valayden’s Interrogation Ended… The Case Will Be Referred To The DPP

Must Read

At around 12.30 pm, the interrogation under warning of the leader of Linion Pep Morisien by the Central CID ended. The police accused him of holding an illegal demonstration on 16 May 2021 in favour of Palestine. The lawyer is accused of not having informed the police of the demonstration, and therefore of not having sought police authorisation. He is also accused of having held a demonstration that brought together more than 200 people at one point. Moreover, Rama Valayden, according to the police, had disregarded the instructions and warnings of the police that day. For Rama Valayden and his lawyers, everything was done legally that day. They have requested that the case be referred to the DPP’s office, which will decide what to do about it. In the meantime, Rama Valayden was able to return home.

“It was Rama’s duty to denounce the genocide”

Rama Valayden’s lawyers all spoke out after the questioning of Linion Per Morisien leade. Steven Sauhobooa said it was “a strange coincidence” that just after Valayden’s statements in the Akil Bissessur case, the Avengers leader was summoned for a case that dates back more than 18 months. Anoop Goodary, for his part, said that it was “Rama Valayden’s duty to denounce the genocide of the Palestinian people”. He said that Valayden has done everything legally but that the police are misinterpreting the law. “That is why we have asked that the case be referred to the DPP’s office. We have to let the professionals interpret the law,” he said. For José Moirt, this is all a “staged event to make the population understand that any demonstration, even if it is to denounce genocide and demand human rights, will lead to problems with the police,” he said.
