Duval: “Our Real Challenge Is How To Deal With Climate Change”

Must Read

The opposition leader spoke at the congress of the L’Espoir platform in Quinze Cantons on Friday. He first focused on the economic aspect. He said that it is the waste that prevents the government from lowering prices. “The Minister of Finance cannot lower the taxes. Prices are soaring,” he said. Xavier-Luc Duval also focused on climate change. “This is the real challenge facing the country. How do we deal with climate change? We will oscillate between periods of drought and flash floods. You only must look at what is happening in other countries,” he said.

Xavier-Luc Duval also said that the municipal elections will indeed take place. He added that this election would pave the way for real change. The PMSD leader emphasised, as did Nando Bodha before him, the love that the L’Espoir platform have for the country. Nando Bodha said that he loved his country before his former party. As for Xavier-Luc Duval, he said that the leaders of l’Espoir, who have a track record, love Mauritians… and not only those in the audience.

Bérenger: “There is a deep desire for change in the country”

We must not lose hope in the future. This is the message of Paul Bérenger in Quinze Cantons yesterday. He said that there is “a deep desire for change in the country, especially among the youth”. So the L’Espoir platform wants to bring together all the people who want change. “These are not empty words. We are not talking lightly. Like Nando Bodha, we say that the time has come for real change,” he insisted. He said, however, that to have real change, you need a real programme. “We are working on it,” he said. Paul Bérenger added that we needed to get rid of corruption. “We need a new Icac, a new Declaration of Assets Act and we need to restore and deepen democracy… starting with Parliament and the Speaker,” said Paul Bérenger. The MMM leader called for a new MBC Act as well as the “reign of competence and democracy in the economy and in general.”

Paul Bérenger also said that we need a Prime Minister and a team for “real change.” The MMM leader insisted on the term “real change.” He said that it was important to bring everyone together. Paul Bérenger also said that after the Agalega mess and the Sniffing affair, there is now confusion about Rodrigues. “We must have respect for countries whose people have settled in Mauritius in the past. However, we have to be vigilant about what is happening in Agalega, Rodrigues and the Sniffing case,” he said. He ended his speech by saying that we must bring together “all patriots.” Paul Bérenger said that the l’Espoir platform is ready for the municipal and/or legislative elections.
