Promotion To Grade 2: A Discriminatory Decision According To Some Parents Of Grade 1 Children

Must Read

Some parents still do not understand why the authorities have taken the decision to make an evaluation only to children born between January and June 2015 so that they can be in grade 2. A decision endorsed by the Council of Ministers last February and which has given rise to some controversy.

However, some SEDEC elementary school have already carried out the evaluations with the objective of the promotion exercise scheduled for May 9.

As for the state elementary school, the evaluations for the passage from Grade 1 to Grade 2 will be done starting next week.

The Ministry specifies that in no case, it is perceived as discrimination. And that no student will be harmed.

Except that some parents do not see it that way, they have sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s office to explain their grievance. They even had a meeting with Ministry of Education officials last month at the Ombudsperson’s office. And they hope that the authorities will take their request into consideration. According to them, it is discriminatory to believe that students may be more apt to take an assessment based solely on their month of birth.

Especially since some of them think that with the new school calendar the Ministry can reverse this decision and give the chance to all children to make this assessment.
