Must Read

Central Committee of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) on Saturday 10 June 2023, at the Sun Trust building in Port-Louis. Activists from the country’s twenty constituencies were invited to listen to a speech by MSM leader Pravind Jugnauth, as well as other influential members of this political party.

The head of government did not miss this opportunity to comment on a subject that has been making the headlines since Friday, the notorious Vimen Leaks: “The ‘timing’ of the broadcast of this audio tape by certain press titles is intriguing. For him, every time there is a “feel-good factor” in the country, there are “manoeuvres” by some of his opponents who want to destabilise his government.

The Prime Minister says that the members of his government are in no way involved in this affair. The police are already conducting a thorough investigation into any allegations of abuse of power or illegal acts by any of their officers. Pravind Jugnauth has reiterated his government’s determination to combat drug trafficking in the country and that he will use his power “pou kass le rein bane mafia”.

Pravind Jugnauth dwelt at length on the various measures announced in the 2023/24 budget at the MSM Central Committee meeting. “The 2023-2024 budget is a budget of continuity, and reflects the government’s philosophy, which is to protect the population and create the necessary environment to bring about more developments in order to support the economic recovery,” he said.

For Pravind Jugnauth, “the government must continue to support people’s purchasing power and improve their quality of life. Despite the difficult context facing the country, the government has presented a forward-looking, socialist budget that will give the country more confidence to face the challenges ahead. The government will continue to support all the players in the various sectors of our economy”.

For his part, Minister Renganaden Padayachy, who also spoke at the MSM Central Committee, focused on the measures taken for the police. The Finance Minister also spoke about another key measure in this budget, namely the full coverage of treatment costs for children suffering from cancer.
