Pravind Jugnauth: Economic Recovery Slow But Sustained

Must Read

The budget 2021 – 2022 has the objective to enable the country to have an economic recovery that may be slow but sustained and he also indicated that the government will continue the campaign for the recovery of the Chagos. The government will engage in a major campaign to attract as many tourists as possible so that there is a slow but steady economic recovery.  This is what Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth said during his speech at the close of the latest budget debate in Parliament.  He added that this is what will help achieve a modern, strong, inclusive and resilient Mauritius.

The Prime Minister said he was proud of the budget – a budget that did not introduce new taxes or increase existing ones.  The government has a clear and precise plan, he said, and the budget has not increased the burden on citizens or businesses. He also claimed that the unemployment figures in the budget come from Statistics Mauritius.

Pravind Jugnauth also spoke about the Covid 19 crisis. The second wave, which came in March 2021, was, according to him, handled in a more balanced way, with less negative consequences for the economy.

He also welcomed the fact that 40% of the population will be vaccinated out within days. The Prime Minister emphasized that he will engage in a major campaign to attract as many tourists as possible with an objective of 650 000 tourists.
