Phase 3 Of The Metro Express Project, Ebene To Réduit Under Construction

Must Read

In view of the upcoming major works in Rose Hill for the implementation of Phase 3 of the Metro Express Project, from Rose Hill Central Station through Ebène to Réduit, a site visit was held, today, at Rose Hill Central Station to ensure an effective coordination of works.  The visit was organised by the Ministry of Land Transport and Light Rail, Metro Express Limited (Mauritius), and other stakeholders.  The major works will kick-start as from this week.

The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, the Chief Executive Officer of Metro Express Limited (Mauritius), Dr Das Mootanah, the Mayor of Beau Bassin/Rose Hill, Mr Jean Didier David Utile, and other personalities were present at the site visit.

Metro phase 3 - Ebène to Réduit

In a statement, Minister Ganoo highlighted that the launching of Phase 3 of the Metro Express Project is another milestone, which was already approved by Cabinet. He pointed out that surveys as well as the due diligence exercise have already been undertaken and it was decided that the extension works from Rose Hill to Réduit would be carried out by Larsen & Toubro.

The works to be carried out, underscored the Minister, will imply that there will be traffic diversions in the vicinity. He thus appealed to road users to be patient until the completion of construction works, expected by the end of 2022 and which should coincide with the completion of works in Curepipe. Phase 3 of the Metro Express Project, which stretches over some 3.4 kilometres, is economically viable and will increase the ridership of the Metro Express by some 15,000 passengers on a daily basis, he added.

As for Dr Mootanah, he underlined that works will comprise the construction of another platform at the same level as the existing railway station and will provide the same facilities and service to commuters. He observed that works will start between the Central Electricity Board Office and the roundabout near Rose Hill post office and that rails will be elevated on some 548 metres from Rose Hill to Ebène State Secondary School before reaching ground level.

Furthermore, Dr Mootanah stated that Phase 3 will comprise two stations, at Ebène and Réduit respectively. He also indicated that Vandermeersch Street, from the Central Electricity Board Office to the roundabout near Rose Hill post office, will be converted into a one-way street during the implementation of this phase of the project, while quality environment and safety patrols will be carried out on a regular basis.

For his part, Mr Utile emphasised that regular meeting will be held with relevant stakeholders throughout the implementation of Phase 3 so that works are carried out in the best possible way.
