The victim is separated from his wife, who left for abroad and he lived alone with his son. The latter, who is a drug addict, is registered at the Stanley police station as a notorious recidivist. The tragedy was caused by a money dispute. The son was demanding money from his father, in particular the money from the rental of the house. When his father refused to give him the money, he attacked him violently. The fight started outside and ended inside on a bloody note where he hit his father several times in the head with a pipe.

His body was autopsied at the Candos Hospital morgue by Dr. Sheila Jankee-Parsad, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed his death to a skull fracture. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Western Division, led by Superintendent of Police, Shyam Bansoodeb, was assigned to the case.
