One Case Of Drowning Recorded On January 2

Must Read

The day of Monday, January 2 of the new year 2023 was marked by a case of drowning.  Balmick Poonyth, 74 years old and resident of Midlands who was reported missing in the afternoon of January 2 was fished out of a river in the locality early Wednesday morning of January 3.  The autopsy attributed the death of this septuagenarian to asphyxia due to drowning.

In the evening of Monday, January 2 at about 8:13 pm Shekar Poonyth, 42 years reported the disappearance of his father to the Midlands police station. The missing Balmick Poonyth, 74 years old had left his home around 4:30 pm the same day, never returned home. Searches made by his relatives and acquaintances were unsuccessful. The septuagenarian often went for a walk in the locality and on the bank of the river. As it had rained on Monday, January 2, the water of the river was muddy.

It was not until the morning of Tuesday, January 3, that his body was found in the river. His relatives are of the opinion that Balmick Poonyth, who was wearing a pair of slippers on his feet, slipped into the river.

His body was then transported to the morgue of the Victoria Hospital in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy was performed on the morning of Tuesday, January 3, by Dr. Sheila Jankee-Parsad, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed his death to asphyxiation due to drowning.

The police have opened an investigation to shed light on the exact circumstances of this drowning case.
