NPCC Signs Agreement With 10 Regional Lead Associations

Must Read

Ten freshly registered associations comprising former participants of the National Leadership Engine (NLE) project signed an agreement with the NPCC on Friday, paving the way towards a solid formal cooperation under which the NPCC will offer them support in terms of management and project implementation.

These associations form the NLE Action Drivers (NLEAD) network, itself being an emanation of the NLE project that aims at creating a pipeline of leaders in Mauritius.

The regional lead associations have already started developing and implementing community-based projects. The NPCC has offered each association a stipend of Rs 15,000 that will help them fund their initiatives. The NPCC is also planning specific training in areas which will help them further develop the required leadership skills.

Youth leadership is an area where the NPCC is laying very strong emphasis. Productivity and leadership are intrinsically linked to each other. Strong leadership allows rapid, inclusive, sustainable socio-economic development and is a key factor in fostering innovation and mitigating the risks of corruptive practices,” Mr. Ashit Gungah, Executive Director of the NPCC said at the agreement signing ceremony. He added that youth leadership helps in unlocking the potential of the workforce and ensuring organisations have the right strategies to drive productivity and growth.

It is imperative that we continue grooming young people and help them discover the fields where they can explore and nurture their leadership skills. Besides working on projects, our young leaders should act as role models for others and influence their peers to adopt the same values,” the Chairman of the NPCC said in his remarks.

NLE and NLEAD contribute to achieving the vision of the Government through the development of a new breed of leaders who can counter volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. The NPCC will continue focusing on developing youth capabilities with a special focus on honing their leadership potential and thereby espousing the values of the National Leadership Brand. The new Strategic Plan of the NPCC has therefore given prominence to youth and leadership development.

The NLE project aims to develop leadership capabilities among youth. Leadership is a stepping stone for youth to participate in building effective, accountable, and inclusive communities in Mauritius. It is to be noted that during NLE2019 and NLE2020, above 500 youths were trained and 80 projects were implemented.

The NLE is an initiative of the NPCC in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation with the objective of developing a leadership pipeline to achieve higher productivity and a better living for the nation.
