Mustafa Suleyman, DeepMind Co-Founder, To Head Microsoft AI

Must Read

Microsoft said that Mustafa Suleyman, a pioneer in artificial intelligence (AI) from Britain, will head its recently established division, Microsoft AI.

Suleyman, who presently heads the AI startup, Inflection AI, is most recognized for having co-founded DeepMind. It was one of the most well-known AI companies in the UK when Google acquired it in 2014.

With Suleyman’s move, Microsoft further solidifies its position as a leader in artificial intelligence, an area where Google seems to be having difficulty.

“Excited” to start his new role, Suleyman wrote in a post on X, the former Twitter. He also mentioned that he would be bringing other colleagues to Microsoft, including chief scientist and “friend and long-time collaborator” Karén Simonyan. Along with Bing and Edge, he claimed to be “leading all consumer AI products and research” along with the Copilot chatbot.

Suleyman was called a “visionary, product maker, and builder of pioneering teams that go after bold missions” by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. “I am excited for them to contribute their knowledge, talent, and expertise to our consumer AI research and product making,” he added.

Following his departure from Google in 2022, Suleyman co-founded Inflection AI, which has become a leading player in the generative AI space after securing $1.3 billion in funding from Nvidia and Microsoft in June of last year.
