Mauritius No Longer A “Very High Risk Countries” For Germany

Must Read

Good news for our compatriots wishing to travel to Germany, Mauritius is no longer considered a very high risk country for this European country.

Since Sunday 5th December, Mauritius has been a “high-risk-area” for the Germans. It is now the turn of Italy, Canada, Malta and San Marino to hold this title and join France, Reunion Island, Seychelles, Switzerland and the United States, among others.

Mauritius, on the other hand, maintains its closure to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia until 31 January. This follows a decision by the High Level Committee to extend the opening deadline to 1st January.

South Africa Curfew lifted

South Africa, considered the cradle of Omicron, has reported a drop in cases of infection and even passed the fourth wave without reaching the peak of deaths, according to a recent AFP report. South Africa has over 3.4 million cases and 91,000 deaths. The numbers have been trending downwards with 26,000 daily cases in mid-December and less than 13,000 cases in the last 24 hours. The nocturnal curfew is finally lifted on New Year’s Eve. However, masks and social distancing remain in force. Nightclubs can reopen but gatherings are still limited to a maximum of 1,000 people inside and 2,000 outside. The presidency has announced its promise to accelerate the national vaccination campaign.
