Man Arrested For Jumping Off Eiffel Tower With A Parachute

Must Read

On Thursday, a man was arrested by the police in Paris for jumping off the Eiffel Tower with a parachute, according to CNN, American news channel, affiliate BFMTV, 24-hour rolling news and weather channel based in France.

As per police resources, BFMTV reported that a man climbed a pillar of the Eiffel Tower.

The security arrested the man within “less than a minute” after entering the site, said SETE (Société d’Exploitation de la tour Eiffel), the tower’s management company. The tower’s intervention brigade tried to dissuade him but failed and the man continued with his plan to jump from the landmark.

According to BFMTV, the man landed on the roof of a nearby sports center after which he was arrested.

After the incident on Thursday, SETE filed a complaint. They said in a statement “This type of irresponsible action, which endangers those working on or under the structure,” according to BFMTV.

Due to the incident, the opening of the tower on Thursday morning was slightly delayed. In terms of security incidents over the past week at the landmark, this is most recent.

The monument’s management told CNN that two American men were found drunk up the Eiffel Tower on Monday.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said the two men had on Sunday evening bought tickets to the Eiffel Tower and were “allegedly trapped there due to their excessive alcohol consumption.”

The tower was evacuated and isolated for several hours due to a bomb threat on Saturday. The three floors of the tower and the courtyard were cleared while authorities dealt with the threat, according to a BFMTV report.
