Learning Packs In Grades 5 And 6 : Unacceptable Mistakes

Must Read

The content of the kits already classified as “Vetted” will have to be scrutinised. These learning packs for English, French and Science subjects for Grades 5 and 6 are full of spellings, agreements and structural errors. This was noted by the educators who received some passages of the vetted copies for informative purposes.

Will the preparation of the Learning Kits meet the deadline for the start of the next school year? A question that remains unanswered for the moment. While the Ministry of Education is working hard to validate these manuals and pedagogical guides in order to better assist students in home learning and, by the same token, educators and parents who will be following up on the syllabus, inadmissible mistakes and other anomalies in the content have been detected. Textbooks, which were already validated, will have to be corrected, revised and restructured.

MIE not yet involved

These vetted textbooks have been prepared and validated by the Ministry of Education, and the documents have been sent to educators. The Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) is expected to be involved only in the graphic design and finalisation. Distribution to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6, as well as to educators and parents is planned for January 2022.

The Learning Pack covers the subjects of English, French, Mathematics, History and Geography. This project announced by the Minister of Education, Leela Devi Dookun Luchoomun on Friday 10 December aims to better guide students away from online courses and specially to allow educators and parents to better follow the syllabus undertaken by the student in real time and away from the computer tool.

This is not the first time that serious mistakes have been detected in the courses prepared by the concerned ministry and all other concerned bodies. In April 2020, mistakes were found in the courses offered on the MBC channels. This case caused a great stir among students, parents and educators alike.
