The former president of the Mauritius Turf Club has been summoned by the Police des Jeux. The summons is based on comments he made in 2017 in a press interview. “I don’t intend to go there”, says Jean Michel Giraud, who deplores the slowness of the police and the omnipresence of illegal betting. It is to be noted that la police des Jeux operates under the control of the Gambling Regulatory Authority.
Jean Michel Giraud condemned the proliferation of illegal betting in the horseracing industry and the damage caused by this phenomenon. The former chairman of the MTC will not be responding to the summons. In justifying his decision, he cited the lack of details from the police and the slowness of the procedure.
