MTC: Jean Michel Lee Shim Resigned As A Founding Member

Must Read

Jean Michel Lee Shim submitted his resignation as a founding member of the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) on Thursday October 6. It comes a day after a motion of censure asking that he be struck off as a member of the MTC was published to be on the agenda for the next Annual General Assembly of the club.

The reason given is the absence of sanction after the incident that occurred during the Barbé Cup. “Following the unfortunate incident that occurred on Barbé Day, August 6, 2022, I submitted my resignation as a founding member of the Mauritius Turf Club this Thursday, October 6. My resignation is motivated by the absence of sanction after this regrettable incident while the Mauritius Turf Club had undertaken to appoint a disciplinary committee to follow up on the incident in question. It was a difficult decision, but inevitable after careful consideration following a series of consultations with my entourage, including my trainer Mr. Ricky Maingard. I concluded that the MTC has no will to sanction this kind of behavior. I no longer recognize the MTC, once intransigent on principles and discipline, “said Jean-Michel Lee Shim through a press release published by People’s Turf PLC Ltd (PTP) a public company in which he is one of the major shareholders.

Taslima Valayden had copiously booed Jean-Michel Lee Shim when he returned to the paddock of the MTC after the victory of his horse Frosted Gold.

The MTC has set up a disciplinary committee which is chaired by former president Jeenarain Soobagrah. Two sessions took place, the last of which was on Wednesday 28 September. The committee postponed the case to a later date pending the legal advisers of the MTC to study the requests of Taslima Valayden’s lawyer, Me Sanjeev Teeluckdharry.

The resignation of Jean Michel Lee Shim comes one day after the items that will be on the agenda of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MTC members, to be held on Friday, October 21 at the club’s headquarters, were communicated to members. Among them, we can see under section 9 that there is: “To consider and adopt, if necessary, the following motion: It is proposed that the Board of Directors undertake immediately after its election, the actions necessary to strike off as members of the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC), Messrs. Henri Leblanc, Jean Michel Lee Shim, and Kamal Taposeea, it being understood that they have recently been directors and/or stakeholders of an organization which harms and harms the interests of the TCM. »
