Important Security Update For Older Apple iPhones And ipads

Must Read

Apple’s strict policy to support its older devices and their software is often modified whenever necessary. The company has again altered its security in terms of system updates for devices that are no longer supported.

The new Apple update, iOS 12.5.6 version, will be released this week. Devices that must be updated right away include older iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 series, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, and the 6th –gen iPod Touch. The build number of the new Apple update is 16H71.

According to the company, the update reduced the WebKit sensitivity resulting in the arbitrary code execution that gives access as well as control the device.

Apple is aware of this issue but what worries the company is that attackers have exploited it to their advantage. It is advised to the devices running on the iOS 12 version to update to the new version immediately.

The download size of the update is 275MB but the WebKit requires fixing. This loophole is fixed by going to the iPhone/iPad Settings – General – Software Update – and getting your device updated.

It is unusual for Apple to provide such updates and it seems necessary to tackle the issue to prevent the situation to worsen for the users. Apple has chosen to migrate some of its users to the latest version, a couple of months after the update is launched. This suggests that some Apple users have their devices running on the older version.
