Illegal In Mauritius, A Nigerian Woman Engaged In Prostitution

The operation Weka 2, conducted by elements of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand-Baie in the evening of Friday, June 17, led to the arrest of four people who were in an irregular situation. They are three Bangladeshis and a Nigerian woman, 27 years old. The latter who is in Mauritius illegally since February 29, 2016 was arrested while soliciting a man for immoral acts. The Weka 2 launched in Mauritius on Sunday, June 12 by the Interpol service with the collaboration of each police district to track down all illegal foreigners. To date, fifty of these people are in detention at Le Chaland awaiting repatriation.

This Weka 2 operation was conducted in two phases by the men of Inspector Thakoor of the CID of Grand-Baie. This operation was under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Hossenbacus and the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Buchoo.

It is on the basis of certain information that these police officers of the CID went to Bogun, Chemin Vingt-Pieds, Triolet around 3:00 am for the first phase of this operation. A dormitory was searched. Three Bangladeshis, whose work permits had expired, were residing there. They are respectively 36, 45 and 46 years old.

These three Bangladeshis were brought before the Port-Louis court on Friday, June 17. They are facing a provisional charge of illegal residence. They were held in a police cell until Thursday, June 23.

A patrol by these police officers on the Royal Road in Grand-Baie on the evening of Friday, June 17, around 9:00 p.m. found two women who were soliciting men for immoral acts. They are a Nigerian woman. The latter was staying in an apartment in Grand-Baie.

The other woman who was arrested at the same time as her is a 23 year old resident of Roche-Bois. Both women were presented before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis on Saturday, June 18. They are facing a provisional charge of illegal stay and soliciting male for immoral purposes respectively.
