HSC 2022: This Year’s Success Rate Is 92.25%

The Higher School Certificate (HSC) Examinations pass rate standing this year at 92.25%, representing 5,203 candidates, that is, 94.63% denoting 3,028 female students and 89.14% denoting 2,175 male students. A total of 5,640 students sat for the HSC Examinations 2022, out of which 3,200 were female students and 2,440 were male students.

During a press conference, held in Réduit yesterday afternoon, the director of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), Mrs Brenda Thanacoody Soborun, gave some figures regarding the overall performance of HSC students for the October/November 2022 Examinations. Mrs Thanacoody Soborun accentuated that the 2022 HSC results need to be compared to the 2019 HSC results due to the COVID-19 pandemic where examinations were carried out in different circumstances for the years in between.

She also indicated that the percentage pass rate for the Island of Mauritius stands at 92.30% representing 5,469 candidates, out of which 94.76% represents 3,108 girls and 89.07% represents 2,361 boys. As for the Island of Rodrigues, the Director observed that the percentage pass rate stands at 90.64%, out of which 90.22% represents 92 girls and 91.14% represents 79 boys.

MES Director highlighted that in several schools, the success rate exceeded 95% and schools that presented more than 50 candidates and performed well include: Queen Elizabeth College; Dr Maurice Curé State College; Droopnath Ramphul State College; Royal College of Curepipe; Loreto College of Quatre Bornes; Collège du Saint Esprit; Belle Rose State Secondary School; Imperial College; Doha Secondary School; Forest Side State Secondary School (Girls); Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Moka and; Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School of Flacq.

HSC Examinations pass rate

Mrs Thanacoody Soborun further remarked that performance in various subjects has also improved significantly in 2022 compared to that of 2019 such as in Business Studies from 66.2% in 2019 to 89.3% in 2022; Chemistry from 75.6% to 91.4%; Economics from 79.6% to 93.2%; English Literature from 60.1% to 90.4%; Mathematics from 81.4% to 91.8%; Physics from 80.2% to 91.1% and; Sociology from 64.8% to 88.6%.

She also pointed out that the success rate for the HSC Professional (HSC Pro) stands at 96.55%, which shows an increase of 5.6% compared to the previous year and added that two scholarships were awarded to the best HSC Pro candidates.
