Horse Racing: Port Louis City Council Terminates Lease Of Champs De Mars To MTC

Must Read

The equestrian world is in shock. Incredible development in the arm wrestling between the MTC and the GRA, even the State. Yesterday, the Port-Louis City Hall informed the MTC that its lease for the Champs de Mars has been cancelled. Below is the letter sent to the MTC. Thus, it is almost certain that the start of the horse racing season is becoming more and more hypothetical.

The Champ de Mars, logically, is the track and everything in between (the shops, the parking lots, and other amenities). All this was, until now, managed by the Mauritius Turf Club according to a lease it holds from the municipality of Port-Louis.

In the last few weeks, we have witnessed a war of communiqués that suggested that no solution was possible. It was simply a dialogue of the deaf, the Horse Racing Division had granted itself certain rights concerning the organization of the races, the program among others, the MTC did not agree, and the horse racing season did not start as planned last Saturday. Turfists were hoping for a happy ending.

Here are the press releases from the GRA and the Port Louis City Hall.
