Must Read

The Ambassador of Finland to Mauritius, South Africa, Botswana and Lesotho, Mrs Anne Lammila, met the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry in Phoenix. The aim was to discuss avenues of cooperation between Mauritius and Finland in different fields of education.

In a statement, Ambassador Lammila highlighted that the meeting with VPM Dookun-Luchoomun was cordial and focused on areas of cooperation at the tertiary level. She observed that, as Finland has an Africa Strategy, Finnish universities tried to find counterparts in Mauritius so as to develop partnerships and work in collaboration in order to share experiences.

Furthermore, she underscored that discussions also aimed at finding out how Finland can support Mauritius in the fields of early childhood education, special education, and technical and vocational education. The possibility of Finland helping Mauritius in the effective use of technologies in education was also explored because the COVID-19 pandemic has taken the world by surprise and teachers had to learn very quickly on how to teach online, she indicated. Ambassador Lammila also pointed out that a Finnish Counsellor for Science and Education will probably visit Mauritius in the future to determine what can be done in that area.
