The main race this Saturday seems to be very open on paper. Special Blend looks the best of the lot, but he will have to overcome his heavy handicap and he has a bad draw. There will be some tough opponents with Your Pace Or Mine, Captain Flynt, Marauding and Iditarod Trail.
Special Blend has shown good consistency this season with two victories and four places during his six outings. He was in a striking position to come back on Undercover Agent on his last outing, but his jockey Stephen Donohoe lost one of his stirrups 100m from the line. Special Blend finished second at 0.60L from Undercover Agent. He would certainly have won this race without this incident.
He is an a very good horse who was only beaten by the best on the island this year. He will be the horse to beat even though he will carry the heavy handicap of 61 kg and will start from the seventh lane.
The main danger will come from Your Pace Or Mine. He is an honest performer who has won twice this season. He can race in front or follow closely before coming to the finish.
We will also have to be wary of Captain Flynt who has one victory in four outings this season. He is an excellent front runner who can find himself alone up front with his good draw. He will be difficult to catch if he finds himself in the driving seat.
Marauding is back for the second consecutive week. We should not judge him on this performance because he suffered from kickbacks with the poor condition of the track last Saturday.
Iditarod Trail who has been trained with care and who will try to take advantage of his light weight to upset the odds.
