It will be the last time that Mauritian racegoers will be cheering the runners of the oldest stable of the island. Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur announced in October that 2022 will be his last season. He opened the door for any other family member to takeover, but no one is interested.
Ramapatee Gujadhur ran his horses only when races are organised by the MTC Sports and Leisure Ltd (MTCSL). The last two race meetings of the MTCSL will on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11th of December.
The end of the road after 118 years. The reason is that it is no longer sustainable to run a stable while participating in only 20 race meetings with the drastic drop in the stakes money and with no subsidies since this year according to Ramapatee Gujadhur.
Founded in 1904 by Rajcoomar Gujadhur, the Gujadhur stable will have his last runner, John Hancock on Sunday.
