Must Read

Curepipe Starlight SC held its place as favorites in the final of the Republic Cup held yesterday, Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the Phoenix Gymnasium. The Curepipians dominated AS Vacoas-Phoenix 31-27 and in the process lined up their fifth consecutive title in this Cup.

Five in a row. Curepipe Starlight SC did not tremble against AS Vacoas-Phoenix. Aware of their collective superiority the band of Julien Virginie took the game to lead 12-15 at the break.

AS Vacoas-Phoenix, the reigning Mauritius champions, had a hard time finding their automatisms. For cause: the suspension of Jean-Paul Shadrac, the departure of Patrick Ravelomanantsoa and add to those injuries that have diminished the performance of several players.  “AS Vacoas-Phoenix took time to put in place effective combinations. This is due to a reshuffled squad. We will have to deal with this situation to prepare for the next championship,” said Jason Chellen, coach of AS Vacoas-Phoenix.

On the side of Curepipe Starlight SC, the machine was well oiled. From the start, the Curepipe team took the opposing camp by storm with very effective permutations on the left wing. The game in the axis was also very aggressive with Jean-François Lamarque as the conductor.

The strength of the blue team also resided in the fact that several players have the qualities to score goals: Brandon Natian (7), Fabrice Mardaymootoo (5), Julien Virginie (5), Bradley Morin (4) and Jean-François Lamarque (4). “The different strategies we put in place worked. The solidarity was there. We were determined to get this fifth title. We now have our eyes on the championship,” said Julien Virginie, captain of Curepipe Starlight SC.

And when they were overwhelmed by the power of Pascal Yheung Yin (10 goals) and Daniel Yeung Yin (8 goals), Curepipe could count on their goalkeeper, Jonathan Ramsamy.
