After five seasons spent chasing a major title, the formation of Curepipe Rangers HBC opened its counter by winning the final of the Republic Cup yesterday, Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the Phoenix Gymnasium, disposing of the formidable team of the Union Sportive de Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill 18-13.
Write a page of its history at the expense of the most titled formation of local handball. This is what Curepipe Rangers HBC achieved in the final of the Republic Cup 2021.
However, after a score of 7-7 at halftime, it was difficult to imagine that Curepipe would take the lead in the second half, especially when facing an opponent with a decade of unbeaten record in domestic trophies.
Boosted by the efficiency in the finishing of Amanda Aunay (8 goals) and Charonne Caramsing (4 goals) and supported in the construction of the game by the Malagasy Jacqueline Rasoarivelo, Curepipe Rangers created the conditions to take the lead in the score. “It’s a pleasure to win a trophy. Despite all the difficulties that we had to face to be able to train we did not give up. It is a collective title, won by determined players”, said Burty Caramsing, coach of Curepipe Rangers HBC.
On the other hand, the Union Sportive de Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill can have regrets. Never outclassed the band Karen Boudoo could have come back to the score. But they let the title slip away for good when they couldn’t finish off three consecutive scoring opportunities. “We lacked efficiency in front of the goal, especially in the second half. The girls did not lose out. I want to congratulate them for their dedication. We will now get to work for the resumption of the league,” said Cedric Kistohurry, coach of the Union Sportive de Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill.
Curepipe Rangers HBC has thus written a beautiful page in its history and with the determination shown by its staff during this final game, other titles will certainly be within its reach.
