Guillaume Domingue: Farewell To The Friend Of Mauritians

Must Read

Animation is in mourning. Guillaume Domingue, that jovial, punchy and emblematic voice of this world, passed away at only 36 years old. He had been in the intensive care unit at the Dr A.G Jeetoo Hospital since the end of December for cardiac issues, the reason attributed to his death.

Social networks have been abuzz with messages of sympathy and support since the announcement that the former host passed away on Tuesday morning. He was for a long time the favourite host of Mauritians who brought a good dose of good humour, smiles and often laughter to the mornings of Mauritians on their way to work, but also a synonym for de-stressing the afternoons. He held the title of ‘Favorite Host’ of Mauritians for years. He has been on several stations in the island but he will remain most popular for his 14 years at Radio Plus where he started in 2003 as part of Venen Coolen’s team along with Ton Simon, Ton Rolo, Mamie Cloune, Selven Sooben, Subhashni Mahadoo among others. The station paid tribute to him with a special programme during the hours of ‘Allo Maurice’ from 06:30 to 09:00. He also did some memorable years for his fans at MBC Radio and Wazaa FM.

His rise has been meteoric over the years, the friend of Mauritians will have hosted major events such as the National Day, Festival Kreole, the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, the Island Games in Seychelles in 2011 among many others. He will remain unforgettable for his on-air jokes, the sweetness in his voice, but above all his ‘met la faya’ approach towards his audience.

His funeral took place in great privacy and in accordance with health restrictions. His funeral procession left the Chapelle Ardente in Bonne-Terre, Vacoas, at 2pm, for the church in Saint-Pierre and was buried in the Trou-d’Eau-Douce cemetery. Le Matinal presents its sincere condolences to the family of our friend Guillaume Domingue.
